What we Do

Pioneering the use of insect netting at the end of the 1990’s was the first innovative step Fearn’s took in sourcing alternative methods to eliminating pest damage in Swede production. The results were outstanding and proved to the industry that Swede could be grown with a vastly reduced regime of pesticide useage. Environmentally sound Insect netting has now become the norm in the industry. Please visit our sister company Wondermesh Limited for full information on the varieties of Insect netting/products available to prevent unwanted insects/pests during the crucial growing period. And it is also a physical barrier to exclude larger pests such as rabbits, birds and deer.

Our second innovative step came in 2005, when we constructed and pioneered a unique coldstore, the largest of its kind to be created in the United Kingdom. The success of this has meant that we now supply a high class product all the year round, eliminating the need to programme high value imports. Currently Fearn’s are trialling the potential for long-term storage of carrots in Scotland rather than the traditional expensive straw method.

In addition to our own strategic growing methods, we are assisted by our dedicated growers in Scotland to ensure that our commitment in leading the field naturally is passed on through product quality, efficiency of production, storage and distribution, and, most of all, dependability – even in the severest of weather conditions.

The fact that the Fearn’s customer base may be smaller than some larger producer’s is the reason why our customers are never let down.

As a member of LEAF (Linking the Environment and Farming), we are proud to promote environmentally responsible farming. Our aim is to promote good quality produce grown with a high level of environmental care.
