Fearn’s – Growing Methods

“Nature provides year-round and we do too!”

How a product is grown is of great importance to today’s retailers and consumers. Since 1999 all of Fearn’s Swede has been grown under insect netting.

The insect netting protects plants against cabbage root fly and turnip root fly, without the need for organophosphate sprays. The result of using this barrier to combat insect devastation not only impressed other brassica growers within the industry by yielding larger tonnage per acre, but also provided superior colour and uniformity to the product. Insect netting is now recognized as the norm.

Fearn’s have gained a reputation for environmentally friendly farming and are proud to be leading the way in eliminating the use of chemicals on the land and in our food.
