A family-run business with its roots in farming, Fearns was established when it recognised the increasing popularity of swede as a basic vegetable.
Allan and Ann Fearn realised that the climate in the east of Scotland was well-suited to growing swede and established their business here in Laurencekirk, Kincardineshire in 1985. From a modest start, the business has continued to grow year on year and Ann and Allan were joined in their business by their two sons, James and Mike on production and sales, and other professionals who have joined the Fearns team. Over 50 staff are now employed on a permanent basis. Initially, all swede crop was grown on Fearn's own land in Kincardineshire, but with increased demand for high quality swede we enlisted the help of a few dedicated farmers willing to gow swede, using Fearns growing techniques. Our Scottish crops now stretch from Dundee in the south, stretching to the coastal areas of Aberdeen in the north. In 2002 Fearns launched its sister company, Wondermesh® Ltd, based in Laurencekirk, Scotland. Wondermesh® supplies crop inset netting to the UK and European agricultural and horticultural markets.
