Fearn's - Setting the Standards for our Industry |
Studies commissioned by the UK government’s Food Standards Agency (FSA) consistently show that concern about pesticides has remained relatively constant at around 46% in the past few years. Further examination of the results has shown that people are most concerned about the potential risk to health. Even though consumers are becoming more educated about safety controls, their main concern is that pesticide residues in food should be further reduced. This has prompted the FSA to develop an action plan to minimise pesticide residues in food. For more about our products, go to our Buyer's Section. Fearns - Leading the industry in pest control without the use of hazardous pesticides Fearns has pioneered the use of insect netting to address consumer concerns about the use of organophosphates used for many years to control various pests, including the Cabbage Root Fly. Cabbage root fly is a serious pest in brassica crops, with the potential to destroy entire crops within a very short space of time. Our approach to safe growing methods, combined with our cold storage facility means that the Fearns product has a better shape and better flavour. The out of season product is economically more viable for both the UK and export market.
